Dagmar Litterbox
If you are looking for a dane puppy, the type of home that we EXPECT you to be will be the type of person that wants to love this breed and our dog/puppy from puppyhood to old age.

Basically from...THIS
... to THIS
and every stage in between.

DAGMAR USES  HOME AGAIN MICROCHIPS WITH
ALL OUR DOGS AND PUPPIES.

These are our babies, we have the right to refuse anyone.

The following are breedings of which we are seriously contemplating should timing combined with our busy work, show & school schedules allow.  We raise our litters as a family with a lot of hands on being raised in our home.  Newborns are in the Master Bedroom right next to our bed the moment they are born. Around 2 wks old they join us in the great room & gym area where we have a lot of noise and high traffic.  At 4 wks they begin to have "Puppy PE" around these rooms.  Around 5 weeks they come into the office and learn potty & house breaking and at 6 wks begin crate familiarity and running through the house to the front door for "Puppy PE" in the front yard where they can experience & explore the outdoors during good weather.

Being serious breeders we think far into the future of what a potential mating can & should produce as well as where we want to go with that.  These litters are PROSPECTIVE and may or may not happen accordingly or out of the planned sequence. However, as in life nothing is written in stone and our choices can change without notice due to a variety of circumstances in any and all facets of a breeding.

Should you find yourself interested in a breeding below feel free to contact us.

Hello Prospective Home -
Thank you so much for your consideration of our beloved great danes. We are very pleased to be the breeders of what are considered to be Great Danes that stand for quality in the breed and conform to the standard with regard to type, structure, temperament and overall soundness for health of body & mind.  It is a passion no doubt that goes beyond the ordinary. Over the years we've been blessed with the lifelong extended family we've made through our danes with their new families. We love sharing the smallest of milestones and we are there for the joy and heartache that comes with owning & loving a living creature.  With that said, you are considering adding a living creature to your home environment. As a concerned future pet parent and smart consumer we expect to be asked tough questions and we ask tough questions.  Because life is a natural cycle of growing and aging we offer what we believe to be a strong written guarantee and propose to warrant as much as we believe is fair for a dane's growth and overall life expectancy. As each home is different in it's approach to feeding, rearing and training in general dogs will vary in their home lives. We strive for long lived and happy dogs naturally but advise that we are only the beginning, it is paramount that the new home seek to continue and cultivate a life of love, happiness and healthy living for their new dog.

With the advent of the Internet we meet literally hundreds of people and would never or could ever produce the number of puppies that are asked of us. We've not produced a litter of Dagmar babies in over 2 1/2 years.  Our average litter size is 5-7 and so with that said, we of course want to be as sure as possible that the homes selected to be companion & show homes for our babies are only the best and loving homes with the strongest commitment to raising a great dane that is family oriented. As much as we like to show our dogs off in the ring and we are committed to the quality that belongs in the ring, we have a strong belief that a forever companion home will take precedence over someone who wants to dabble into showing a dog with no real commitment. Showing dogs is NOT for the faint of heart, it takes a lot of will & drive to succeed and be part of a team as well as a thick skin for the criticism that comes from your competition and some judges. The hours of training are endless and the possibility of defeat is high with a novice who will not consider a professional handler to help guide them.

Many show breeders will not share price information.  After years of continued inquiries in e-mails with PRICE being the only question I felt compelled to offer a ball park idea here. (Our typical estimate / ball park figures only): Companions with natural ears $1200-1500. Companions with cropped ears by our veterinarian $1500-1800. A show prospect can cost 1.5 to 2 x these figures.  It all really depends on what we see in the litterbox.   Ear crops are VERY expensive these days, sadly the days of a $100 ear crop are long gone. Companions are placed strictly on a spay / neuter agreement with a LIMITED registration. Show dogs sold / placed on open registration to a novice home will be on a co-ownership basis only at the full show price.  I've also decided that cropped puppies will not go to their new homes until their sutures are removed and ears are clear for their new owners to maintain.

The actual puppy selection process will be based on what I feel will benefit Dagmar in the show ring which often times is minor details from puppy to puppy in what my breeder's eye is trying to fine tune in our overall breeding program.  The answering of our QUESTIONNAIRE is not a commitment to buy nor a promise to sell you a puppy. But I have a busy schedule with my photography, dog training as well as equine training schedule so I only continue dialogue with homes that have offered to answer the full questionnaire thus demonstrating they are serious in their search for a Great Dane.  The Purchase Agreement/Contract and prices will only be shared with you once you are an approved home and we have actually whelped the litter, any other prices quoted are estimates.

Are you still here?  Thanks for taking the time to read this far.
Here is what it takes to become a full fledged Dagmar home:
1.) You feel comfortable that we are indeed the type of breeders you desire to work with for hopefully the next decade & beyond.
2.) You feel we have the type of puppy you so desire (i.e. fawn / brindle / harlequin / dog / bitch).
3.) We feel you are the type of forever home we can build a life long relationship with mutual desire for only the best for our dane baby.

Only until all of the criteria above is met are we comfortable in accepting a deposit.  The deposit is non-refundable and is applied to the agreed asking price of the puppy. Deposits are only accepted when we have puppies (deposits are not accepted until that time). However, the deposit is refundable if for any reason the puppy can not  leave our home due to our care or circumstance. Any balance is due before the puppy leaves our home for his or her new forever home. UPON ACCEPTANCE of your deposit we will e-mail you the appropriate contract (companion or show) for your review & return signature(s). The contract will outline our expectations of the new home and the health warranty of your new puppy-to-be. The contract is due back to us prior to the puppy's expected departure date.

PUPPYMILLS & BACKYARD BREEDERS BEWARE: The contract contains a damage statement. It states a $5000 damage claim against each named individual who buys a companion on a spay / neuter  agreement and intentionally or accidentally breeds, or resells in tact the said dog or bitch for purpose of selling or otherwise placing puppies. Dagmar is taking a stand here and now against individuals who try to intentionally mislead us in their purchase of a Great Dane.  We also conduct criminal and general background checks of individuals we get that "gut" feeling about.  If you have any type of criminal record regarding cruelty to animals or children or dealing drugs please do not bother wasting our time.

Let's just say when I thought of this...I got goosebumps it was so exciting!

I personally spent several hundred miles on the road with Janice & Ragz back in the 90's.  We had great fun and Ragz was a true showman and Mama's boy!  Janice as a novice owner handler and Ragz propelled themselves not only into a champion but into the Top 20.  They were not the "establishment" of the day but certainly made the "establishment" take notice that a newbie and a great dog can go a great distance.  Ragz also proved himself in the area of stud dog and produced some outstanding champions who went onto produce more outstanding champions. The photograph featured here of Ragz is one in a series of photographs that I personally took of Ragz for the Cover of The Great Dane Reporter May 1996 issue.

We are also happy to refer you to quality breeders around the world should we not have exactly what you are looking for.  We want to point you in a good direction.

Thank you for looking & considering Dagmar.
