Rescue Organizations
It should be the aim of every breeder to not ever have to find one of their danes in rescue.  All too often Great Danes can be found in rescue groups, dog pounds, owner surrender situations and worse.  We remember one great dane in particular who was rescued in the Southwest who was found left for dead inside a 55 gallon drum at a construction site.  "Lucky" as he was named after his rescue had been used for practice fights with fighting pit bulls, he had serious wounds and broken bones.  I and others were so outraged that this could happen to such a gentle soul.  A fund was set up for "Lucky" and his rehabilitation and he was successfully re-homed.

With that said I have to stress that rescue danes are resilient in most cases.  If you are considering a rescue you MUST be ready for the long haul and not a "trail" basis.  These dogs need love and family and patience.  Some come around like their abuse or neglect never happened and are happy go lucky, others are not quite as easy.  If you choose to contact any of the below listed organizations please be prepared for multiple serious interviews and a home check.  These organizations and their people do great work and all too often out of their own pockets.  Please also consider sending in a cash donation, crate donation, pet bed or dog food donation, why not make it an annual event.

Merlin is featured here with his 6 year old foster mom, Zoey near Houston, TX. Merlin is great with kids, other dogs & cats. He is neutered and up to date on shots. He's about 1 year old and has been very well cared for previously. We're not certain how he ended up in rescue.  He is deaf so will need a forever family who can commit to keeping him safe & loved for the rest of his life. He's got a heart of gold! Interested parties please contact Bianca at Pegasus Great Danes who is fostering him.  msjagger28@consolidated.net
